Main duties include coordinating Red Ribbon Week in October and additional educational programs, with the PFC President and Principal. Research educational programs for assemblies to be brought to the students & contact speakers. The Chair(s) oversees publicity, event setup, creating a schedule of events & volunteer assistance.
This position requires someone who is familiar with standard accounting practices to audit the PFC when necessary.
These "mini book sales" are held one Tuesday a month. Books are donated throughout the year from Springhill families and sold during lunch. Proceeds benefit the Springhill Library. Responsibilities include publicity, volunteer coordination, sales, and setup/cleanup.
Our second opening is Before & After School Enrichment Coordinator. Before and after school enrichment includes programs such as One on One Basketball, Stick School for Kids and Viva El Espanol just to name a few. This person would consider the many requests we receive for such programs to come onto our campus. This person would also work with Mr. Wodhams in deciding what programs might be a good fit for our families and if we have the availability to have the programs here on campus.
This annual Fall event benefits our own Springhill Library. Responsibilities include setting the date (coordinate with Principal & PFC President), contract book vendor, organizes set-up/clean-up, schedules author visits, and event staffing.
This position sets up Box Tops drop-off in school office, publicity & submits Box Tops for credit at the end of school year.
This position requires weekly posting of notices on the bulletin board located in the quad. Weekly flyers include a hard copy of the Friday Flyer and any other notices that are sent home. Items posted must be approved by Principal. Rotating seasonal backgrounds are encouraged.
Responsibilities include coordinating participants, meeting location/time, and publicity for this after school program.
Every Spring our fifth graders participate in this half-day event. Kids rotate through stations that review most of the lessons learned during the year in Club Fit. Coordinate event volunteers, rotating stations, picnic lunch & games.
The Springhill Student Directory is one of the most important resources that the PFC provides to the school parent community. Committee volunteer(s) input data collected from Scorpion Days forms, collect data from school office & District Office. Knowledge of Word and document/data merge required. Create and distribute Student Directory in October.
This position collects forms and donations at Scorpion Days, as well as throughout the school year. Other duties include copying checks, manage matching gift funds and mailing tax letters to all donors.
The 5th Graders show off their talent! These coordinators work as the Producers by acting as liaison between the play's Directors and the 5th Grade parents. Typically 50 to 60 of our 5th graders sign up for the play. Responsibilities include setting event and rehearsal dates, selecting the production, and coordinating the committees. Each parent is required to be on a committee, so the work is truly shared by all.
This position updates all of the emergency backpacks located in each classroom with individual emergency forms, which are turned in during Scorpion Days. This project is required to be completed by the 1st week of school.
This position helps renew current families and register new families in a "free" program that brings needed funds to our school from local businesses.
The first fundraiser of the school year. Traditionally gift wrap has been sold in the first few months of school. Responsibilities include securing an outside vendor, overseeing publicity, disbursement of catalogs, collection of funds, and gift wrap distribution.
A favorite event for all! This event is held on a Friday night in September, on the Lower Playground. Responsibilities include publicity, coordinating activities/games, food & beverage service, music, volunteers.
Friday Flyer is a weekly online publication and is an important resource that the PFC provides to the school parent community. The team of Friday Flyer editors take responsibility for creating the Friday Flyer which is typically distributed on Friday mornings. Each member of the editorial team is responsible for approximately 6 - 8 weeks during the school year to create the online newsletter. Approximate time that it takes to complete the Friday Flyer is four hours weekly, on Thursdays. Constant Contact is the program used to create the newsletter but prior knowledge is not required. This is a great opportunity to stay tuned into what is going on at Springhill. Perfect for parents who want a job they can do at home.
This position assists with project planning, liaison between PFC, Principal, Science teacher & Springhill community. Oversees publicity, grant writing, volunteers, and research.
Coordinates (with PFC President and Principal) time, location and date of golf tournament. The tournament is usually held in early October. Chair(s) oversees publicity, tournament, hospitality and auction committees.
Maintains communication between Springhill school, its families and Children's Choice (our Hot Lunch provider). Coordinate meetings with Children's Choice, schedule volunteer training, maintain volunteer schedule and address issues that arise throughout the school year.
The Lafayette Reservoir Run is a community event put on by the Chamber of Commerce which benefits all of the Lafayette schools. This event usually takes place the last Sunday in October and includes a 5K, 10K, and 2-mile run/walk. Responsibilities include maintaining communication between the event Chairperson and the Springhill community (Friday Flyer online and paper flyers); attending some planning meetings, coordinate Springhill volunteers and assistance at the event.
This position assists in scheduling class time in the library with the Librarian.
This program welcomes our newest Springhill families into the community. Responsibilities include identifying mentor families, matching mentor families with new families, coordinating welcome coffee in September, and publicity.
Maintains the sign in front of the school with important events & dates. Updates mostly occur on a bi-weekly basis. All notices must be approved by Principal and PFC president.
This position coordinates with PFC President the end of the year celebration for Old Board/New Board, staff and committee chairs. Prepares and sends invitations from PFC President's list. Works within the PFC budget to secure venue, hire a caterer, setup, decorations, and gifts.
Responsibilities include researching & hiring speakers for Springhill parent education meetings. Speakers and topics must be approved by PFC President. This position will also work with a newly formed District-wide committee to provide programs available to all Lafayette elementary schools' parents.
This coordinator acts as a liaison between the PFC and the Parent Liaisons from each class. Responsibilities include conducting an informational workshop at the beginning of the school year, creating a liaison roster, and maintaining contact with the liaisons throughout the year.
Every Spring the PFC sponsors the Parent Faculty Party. It is our largest fundraiser of the year & always one of the most memorable. Oversee Committee Chairs & their committees which include Solicitations, Decorations, Food & Beverage, Invitations, Auction Book, Reservations, Check Out, just to name a few.
The faculty holds monthly meetings to plan their teacher in-service curriculum. The PDC representative attends the meetings, held immediately after school, and writes up an article for the Friday Flyer detailing any in-service activities.
These coordinators select a date (with PFC President) and oversee the following committees: publicity, donations, volunteers and staffing for the day of the event.
The Lafayette School Board meets every month while school is in session. Meetings usually occur on Tuesday evenings. This liaison acts as the PFC representative by attending these meetings and reports back to the general membership at PFC meetings.
This position acts as a liaison between the Lafayette Bus Program and Springhill parents with information such as route or schedule changes, annual pass sales or bus program procedures. Attend monthly meetings of the LSBTA (Lafayette School Bus Transportation Authority) with other parent liaisons from the Lamorinda schools. Keep office supplied with one trip bus passes.
Springhill School has various school improvements/projects throughout the year. Looking ahead in the next school year is the installation of a Lower Playground track and a School Garden (to be located behind the Amphitheater). Ongoing projects entail replacement/maintenance of past PFC contributions such as playground equipments, landscaping, lunch room tables, etc. A volunteer is needed to coordinate contractors and vendors with the PFC/Springhill School & Lafayette School District office.
The first event of the school year allows parents to prepare their child (ren) for the year. Coordinate this event (held usually a couple days before school begins) with PFC President, School Secretary, Principal and PFC Committee Chairs. This position runs mainly May-September. Responsibilities include contacting all committee chairs in May for Scorpion Days summer packet flyers, duplications, August mailer, and coordinating volunteers for event.
This position acts as a liaison between Special Ed. parents and Springhill community with information from the District Office and school Principal.
Responsibilities include working with apparel vendor to get order form for Scorpion Days, taking orders at Scorpion Days, and coordinating delivery.
These liaisons attend the Student Council bi-monthly meetings during lunch from October through May. They assist the Student Council and Principal with fundraising events, publicity, and as needed.
his annual May event shows our teachers how much we really appreciate them! It is usually held in the Multi-Purpose Room. Responsibilities include coordinating volunteers for luncheon, selecting theme, food & beverage service, decorations & meal servers.
This event is held on the first day of school in the Library for all parents. Responsibilities of this job include coordinating time & location with the PFC President, Librarian and Principal, and provide refreshments for parents attending.
Create Springhill's annual yearbook. Five to seven committee members are necessary to accomplish this fete:
1. Coordinator - Oversees entire process, and performs a majority of the communications necessary. Job is performed throughout the entire school year. Busier time of year is January through April.
2. Graphic Design and Layout - Compiles the yearbook pages into its final form on Pagemaker. Some pages have been composed by others while some are are composed by this committee member. Designs cover. Communicates with the contracted publisher. Highest intensity time is right before publisher's deadline, which is April to mid-May.
3. Photo Editor - Responsible for collecting and organizing submitted photos into event folders for collage designers' use. Requires someone with cable internet connection. Sporadic workload throughout the school year as photos are received from parents or from official yearbook photographers.
4. Collage Designers - Need at least 4 people. Composes school wide event pages on Photoshop. Historically, Graphic Designer and Photo Editor have also been Collage Designers.
5. Photographers - Need 1 or 2 photographers, in addition to other yearbook committee members, who also act as photographers. Photographs various school-wide events and submits photos to yearbook committee. Must have good quality digital camera and a knack for getting cute shots. Work is sporadic as events and photo coverage needs arise.
6. Orders and Distribution - Creates order form included in Scorpion Days packet; mans the Scorpion Days table in August. Tracks all orders, the vast majority of which are placed at Scorpion Days, but some orders trickle in throughout the school year. Distributes yearbooks to classrooms upon their arrival in June.
Every year, the 4th and 5th graders publish projects that they have worked on throughout the year. Coordinate volunteers needed to assist in the binding process with all the students.
